Opportunity to become a Billet Host Family

Hello WYHA families,

“Billeting” is a hockey tradition and is especially important at the junior level. This concept involves local host families providing a surrogate home to out-of-state/country players. The billet program allows these players to complete their high school education, take college level courses and/or obtain part time employment in the local community while taking their hockey careers to the next level.

The Boston Junior Rangers (BJRs) are looking to the local communities for support. They are currently accepting applications for families to host these amazing young men during the hockey season. The BJRs value the importance of host families who open their homes to our players and appreciate the efforts made by the entire family.  Having a player in your home takes time, patience and a willingness to share while appreciating the cultural and personal differences that become a part of the rewarding experience for both the host family and billet player.

Host families serve as authority figures, role models and extended family to their assigned player. For many players, this is their first experience away from home, family and friends and the host family becomes a very important part of their lives. While hosts receive a monetary stipend of $550 per months to help off-set some of the basic costs such as food and utilities, the true rewards are in the lasting relationships that are formed.

If you are interested in becoming a host family to a Boston Junior Ranger Hockey player, please contact Gina Daniels @  for additional information.  Gina has personal experience in this wonderful experience having the joy in hosting 3 amazing boys last season and she would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Thank you,

Calling all High School and College Students!

Registration is now open for a USA Hockey officiating seminar in June that can make you a certified official in one day.  This is an ideal opportunity for high school and college students to start working as an official over the summer.  Additionally, by taking this seminar you will be covered for the remainder of the 2017/2018 season and automatically registered and complete for the 2018/2019 season.

As part of this pilot program you will be completing all of the normal officiating program registration requirements at the seminar you attend.  This includes submission of your application, seminar attendance, completion of your open book exam and completion of your online seminar curriculum.  For those who are 18 years of age or older, you will need to complete the USA Hockey SafeSport training prior to attending your seminar.  Please be sure to bring your SafeSport completion certificate with you to the seminar.

Please be aware that participation in this Pilot Program is a one-time opportunity for brand new officials only.  For future seasons registered with USA Hockey as an official, you will need to complete all of the registration requirements through the normal process.

For more information visit:http://seminars.massofficials.com/pilot.asp

SafeSport:  If you need instructions to participate in USA Hockey's SafeSport screening process, please read the article SafeSport Program Training on https://www.usahockey.com/.

In order to comply with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 149, Section 54-105, all officials must reach the age of 14 prior to being allowed to officiate USA Hockey games within the Massachusetts District.

Thanks,

WYH BOD
